PONS at $0.40, are you ready to bottom-fish?
Market cap surged to 360 million on September 2, touched 0.77 on September 18, and dropped to 0.40 today—halved in just 25 days. The launchpad hype has faded, buyback data is missing, and Binance perpetual positions still hold 40 million. Is this a golden pit or is the pump-and-dump not finished yet?
First glance: down 24% in a week, retail investors are calling it a “zero coin” in chat groups.
It was still 0.53 on October 1, then a big bearish candle smashed it to 0.42 on October 3, now it’s grinding between 0.37-0.42. 24-hour volume is 60 million, perpetual positions 36-40 million—positions larger than spot market cap, leverage is still in play, people haven’t fled yet.
Candlesticks tell you: 0.377 is today’s low, 0.364-0.370 is the short-term lifeline, the 7-day moving average is pressing down above 0.45, and the 25-day moving average at 0.57 is like a mountain. All technical indicators shout one thing: this is sideways consolidation after a drop, not a reversal.
First point: the 360 million market cap in September was a spike, not a bottom.
On September 2, it entered Binance Alpha, and market cap once surged to 360 million. On September 16, 335,000 tokens were issued in one day, with 320 million in volume—that was the peak, not now.
The launchpad’s buyback and burn depend on fees, which follow token issuance. Mid-September was a spike; by October, price halved, issuance dropped, so buybacks will drop too.
Using September 2’s 360 million as an anchor is like using an ex’s honeymoon phase as the current relationship standard—self-deception.
Alpha is not the same as the main spot market. No new mainnet listings, no new buyback data. The hype is gone, the story is over.
Second point: 40 million in perpetual positions is a double-edged sword.
Contracts opened around September 6, positions are sizable relative to spot market cap. Price dropped from 0.53 to 0.40, leverage is still holding.
Funding rates aren’t high, annualized 5%-16%, no extreme crowding—but that doesn’t mean safety, just that a stampede hasn’t happened yet.
New token perpetuals have shallow depth, can drop from 0.53 to 0.42 in a day. When the market shakes, these new token perpetuals get cut first. BTC dropped from 86,600 to 83,560 on Wednesday, ETH fell below 2,600, PONS is grinding at 0.40 with more volatility than BTC, meaning its drops can be fiercer than you expect.
Third point: 0.40 stuck right in the middle of the box, not cheap, just awkward.
The 0.37-0.42 box has 0.40 exactly in the middle. Above are 0.42-0.425 near three-day highs, 0.45 is October 3 supply, 0.50-0.53 is early October platform.
Below are 0.377 today’s low, 0.364-0.370 short-term lifeline. Below that no solid support, vacuum zone at 0.33.
Daily moving averages are all above price. 7-day MA at 0.45, 25-day MA at 0.57. The structure is sideways after a drop, not a reversal.
0.40 is 25% cheaper than 0.53, still a pullback from the high of 0.78. You’re buying “the box is still intact,” not a bargain.
Bull vs. bear, judge for yourself:
Bulls:
- Launchpad buyback and burn mechanism still active, long-term deflation logic alive
- 0.37-0.42 box defended multiple times, capital is protecting
- Funding rates not high, no extreme crowding
- If issuance returns, buybacks could reignite the narrative
Bears:
- September hype faded, issuance dropped, buyback data missing
- 40 million perpetual positions, leverage still there, could be liquidated anytime
- Daily MAs all above: 7-day at 0.45, 25-day at 0.57
- BTC broke below 83,000, new token perpetuals get cut first
- Key level 0.40, just 0.035 above lifeline 0.365
Resistance above: 0.42-0.425 → 0.45 → 0.50-0.53
Support below: 0.377 → 0.364-0.370 (lifeline) → 0.33 (vacuum)
Trading strategy (no fluff):
Positioning: don’t chase at 0.40. New token perpetuals have shallow depth, only trade the box with very low leverage.
Aggressive:
- Not recommended to go long near 0.40. If you must, very light position when stabilizing at 0.370-0.378, stop loss 0.358, target 0.420. Exit at 0.415 first.
Conservative:
- Wait for 0.33-0.35, stop loss 0.31. Stay out if not reached.
Breakout:
- Only consider chasing if volume confirms hold above 0.425 and pullback doesn’t break 0.40, target 0.45. Do not target 0.53.
Short:
- Light short on weak rallies between 0.415-0.425, stop loss 0.438, targets 0.378, 0.365.
Position rules:
- Single trade risk no more than 1% of total capital, leverage no more than 2x. It can drop from 0.53 to 0.42 in a day, don’t bet your life.
Risk management priority:
- Exit if breaks 0.365 with volume, next support at 0.33.
- If positions accumulate but price doesn’t rise, treat as distribution.
- BTC breaks below 83,000, PONS leverage gets cut first.
PONS now is like those “peak at listing” new tokens in 2021—
Thousands lined up on launch day, no one cares a month later. You think you’re bottom-fishing, but you’re actually catching the last wave after launchpad hype fades.
You don’t dare short PONS at 0.40.
You don’t dare long PONS at 0.33.
This is the fate of new tokens: you can’t catch the rise, and you can’t catch the fall.
What really matters is not the price, but whether issuance returns and if 0.365 can hold.
