ETH at $2500, are you ready to bottom-fish?
Yesterday it was 2560, overnight it was slashed to 2406, and today it pulled back to 2500. You’re staring at the screen, palms sweating— is this a “golden pit” or a grave dug by manipulative traders? It dropped 7% in the past week, weaker than BTC, with ETFs seeing $200 million outflows over six consecutive days. Here’s a harsh truth: those rushing in now are most likely carrying the bags for those who bottom-fished at 2400.
First glance: a pullback from 2406 to 2500 looks strong.
Today’s low was 2406, high 2500, spot 2488-2500, right at the intraday upper edge. BTC pulled back from 80500 to 82600, ETH followed from 2406 to 2500. The candlestick shows a lower shadow rebound; volume reflects liquidation recovery, not a trend reversal. 2500 is stuck at the upper edge of 2400-2560; holding 2440 can still be considered a recovery, but failing to break 2500 means a quick revisit to 2400.
First point: Glamsterdam upgrade, mainnet hasn’t launched.
Sepolia activated on October 6, but the mainnet didn’t come early. 2500 isn’t a testnet issue; it’s risk assets bottoming out together before bouncing. Using “upgrade benefits” as a bottom-fishing reason is like trying to redeem an expired lottery ticket.
ETF spot outflows have lasted six days, totaling about $200 million. BTC saw $487 million outflow on Friday. The channel remains, but no new inflows. Institutions are withdrawing, you’re rushing in—who’s taking the bag?
Second point: Macro hasn’t eased, just caught a breather.
Trump said no Iran strike before the November 3 midterms, oil prices fell from highs, and the 10-year yield dropped from 5.35% to 5.23%. BTC pulled back from 80500 to 82600, ETH from 2406 to 2500.
Sounds bullish? Here’s the plain truth:
Brent is still near 104, this isn’t risk removal, it’s risk pause. The Fed rate is 3.75%-4.00%, and Waller says the economy is on track and more hikes are coming. ETH’s beta is higher than BTC’s—when BTC sneezes, ETH goes straight to ICU.
Third point: Technicals say now is not the time to bottom-fish.
Here’s the path:
October 2 high 2779 → October 7 broke 2650 → October 8 at 2560 → overnight 2406 → today 2500.
After breaking 2650, today’s candle is a lower shadow rebound. Without volume to hold 2560, don’t talk about 2650.
Above: 2500 is today’s high and a key round number, 2560 is yesterday’s lost supply zone, 2600 is psychological, 2650 is October 3 low.
Below: 2440 is rebound start, 2406 today’s low and short-term lifeline, then 2320-2350.
Daily close below 2400 means short-term deep correction.
What are you buying at 2500? You’re buying “someone is catching at 2400,” not a price cheap enough to ignore yields.
Bull vs. Bear, you decide:
Bulls:
2400 defense succeeded, 2406 pulled back to 2500, short-term recovery
Settlement layer, L2, ETF channels intact, staking lockup is a mid-term story
BTC back above 82600; if it breaks 84500, ETH may retest 2600
Bears:
ETF outflows for six days totaling $200 million, no new inflows
7% weekly drop, weaker than BTC, poor resilience
Fed rate 3.75-4.00%, Waller still calls for hikes
2650 lost, 2560 pressing overhead
Key level 2500 is rebound upper edge, not a bottom.
Resistance above: 2500 (today’s high) → 2560 (yesterday’s supply) → 2600 → 2650
Support below: 2440 (rebound start) → 2406 (lifeline) → 2320-2350
Trading strategy
Aggressive:
Don’t chase 2500. If you want to play, wait for a pullback to 2440-2460 with very light position, stop loss at 2390, targets 2500 and 2560. Current risk-reward at the upper edge is poor; going all-in isn’t brave, it’s handing money to manipulators.
Conservative:
Wait for 2320-2360 zone, stop loss 2280. Better yet, wait for a break above 2600 before entering. No entry means stay out. Staying out isn’t shameful; losing money is.
Breakout:
Only consider chasing if volume supports a firm hold above 2560 and pullback doesn’t break 2500, target 2650. Conditions not met now.
Shorts:
Light short on weak rallies between 2500-2530, stop loss 2565, targets 2440 and 2406. Don’t short near 2400; that’s asking for a beating.
Position rules:
Single trade risk no more than 2% of total capital, leverage no more than 3x. Can you handle a drop from 2560 to 2400 in one day?
Risk management priorities (memorize):
Break below 2400 with volume, next support 2320, reduce positions first, don’t add.
If 10-year yield rises above 5.4% or Brent holds above 105, reduce leverage.
If ETF outflows continue next week, 2500 likely to retest 2400.
ETH now looks like early 2024—
Everyone expects a post-halving surge, but first it squats deep, clearing leverage before pumping.
Difference is: ETFs are running, macro hasn’t eased, Glamsterdam mainnet not live yet.
It’s not that ETH is weak; you keep rushing in at the rebound upper edge, then get cut out on the second bottom test.
