Wallets are more honest than words
The funding situation is the real big news today: $ETH contract positions saw a net outflow of nearly 400 million dollars within just a few hours today, the largest withdrawal in 7 days, equivalent to six times the total outflow on 10/08. On 10/07, the entire market experienced liquidations totaling 696 million USD in 24 hours, almost entirely from long positions. Today's move is less about longs cutting losses and more about leveraged traders collectively getting expelled from their accounts. The fee rate simultaneously flipped negative to -0.001%, meaning shorts pay longs every 8 hours — it sounds like longs are about to breathe a sigh of relief, but combined with the 400 million dollar position withdrawal, it looks more like shorts have earned enough and are proactively closing positions, not even bothering to collect rent.
The spot market is even more straightforward: on 10/06, the Ethereum spot ETF had a net outflow of 201.9 million USD in a single day, all leaking out from BlackRock's Ethereum ETF alone. This round of decline is not a panic stampede, but a wallet orderly exit — a disciplined retreat is far more frightening than a loud cry.
