A trader lost $1.25M yesterday without getting hacked, rugged or liquidated.
And the scary part is, they did something most of us do almost every day in crypto.
A scammer had previously sent tiny transactions from an address designed to look like the trader's real recipient.
So when it was time to send $1.25M USDT, the trader copied an address from their transaction history.
It was the wrong one he copied
$1.25M gone.
But luckily for him, Tether froze the scammer's wallet about 20 minutes later, before the USDT could be moved.

Independent investigator @LeahFiles is raising major questions about the expanding stablecoin system, the Trump family’s crypto interests, Tether and Washington’s new framework for digital dollars.
Files argues the pieces are connected: stablecoins, U.S. Treasuries, private companies positioned to profit and digital assets that can potentially be frozen with the flip of a switch.
The GENIUS Act requires regulated payment stablecoins to be backed by approved reserve assets, including short-term U.S. Treasuries.
But Files says one of the bigger concerns is what that system could become:
“What they’re doing is privatizing it, just like they’re privatizing the surveillance state.”
And if private entities have the power to freeze funds, what safeguards exist if that power is ever abused?
“That’s the scary part when you give that power.”
.@WSJ and @SenBlumenthal didn’t even provide the report to @Tether until after the WSJ article was published. It’s clearly a political attack against @POTUS.
Real blockchain usage numbers and data easily disprove the thesis of the article, and Tether freezes sanctioned addresses proactively.
This performative theater can only happen when a senator of the United States listens to a failed actor like Ben McKenzie, who forgot Commissioner Gordon was just his character, not real life. 🤦♂️
